At the 1943 Midwest Conference track and field meet, William Laxson produced one of the most memorable single day performances by any Fighting Scot athlete. Laxson earned first-place honors in the 220-yard dash, pole vault and 200-yard low hurdles, establishing a conference record in the latter event with a time of 24.2 seconds. He also earned two seconds, one third and a fifth-place mile relay finish. Laxson was also part of Monmouth’s winning mile relay ream at the Drake Relays in 1943, helping the squad to a time of 3:26.8.

Coached by “Jelly” Robinson and Bobby Woll in track, Laxson also played basketball for Woll, earning varsity letters in 1942 and 1943.

Laxson had a successful career as a surgeon and retired in Boise, Idaho.
