Great athletes line the walls of the M Club Hall of Fame. But with his induction, Roger Well becomes the first great decathlete.

In track and field’s most grueling competition, Well was a standout, qualifying for the national meet three times and placing 10th twice. He also took sixth place at the Drake Relays decathlon in 1985, scoring 6,623 points, and he won the Midwest Conference decathlon meet that same year. He has Monmouth’s top nine decathlon performances of all time.

The triple jump was his specialty, and the three-year track captain won Midwest Conference indoor (44'0-1/2) and outdoor titles (45'9) in his career. He also once held Monmouth’s pole vault record, clearing 13'7.

True to his diverse track skills, Well also excelled in another sport, leading Monmouth’s football team in interceptions as a senior. The three-year gridiron starter was honored as the Outstanding Athlete of his class in 1984, 1985 and 1986.

Well has continued his success earning two master’s degrees, serving two terms as a school board member, and as a business executive.
