Hall of Fame
There wasn’t a Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year award when Samantha Barranco began her Monmouth soccer career, but the Fighting Scots goalkeeper surely would’ve won it, in addition to all the other honors she accumulated during her outstanding career.
Barranco burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2010 with the first of her four consecutive first-team All-MWC honors, earning the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. She helped the Scots secure a playoff berth on the season’s final day, making a spectacular save on a penalty kick in the final moments to preserve a 1-0 victory in a must-win game.
Barranco’s heroics continued, as she earned All-North Region honors her junior and senior seasons and led the Scots to the 2013 MWC title game. In all, the two-year captain played 6,656 minutes with an .815 save percentage, posting 38 victories and 27 shutouts, all school goalkeeping records. Monmouth made the playoffs in three of her four seasons.
