An all-conference player in football and basketball for Kewanee High School, where he captained an undefeated football team his senior year, Bill Walton came to Monmouth College with many records already under his belt.

As a Fighting Scot, he immersed himself in athletics – as a three-year starting quarterback, a guard in basketball, a baseball pitcher and a vaulter and jumper in track. His college scrapbook is filled with many exciting memories, including a 60-yard touchdown pass in a 20-14 come-from-behind win over Beloit and scoring the last final three points against Cornell in a 64-61 basketball victory.

Walton’s athletic exploits continued after graduation with coaching success in Kewanee and Elgin following two years in the Marine Corps. He entered the field of landscape architecture and was instrumental as a city council member in developing the golf course which is home to the Phoenix Open.
