The Fighting Scots women’s track team had never won a Midwest Conference team title or had an All-American before Linda Schmidt joined the team in 1991. Schmidt experienced both milestones in her career, paving the way for the success of many Monmouth women behind her. Schmidt specialized in the high jump, placing fourth in the nation for three straight years. At the time of her induction, she holds both of MC’s high jump records, clearing 5’8 indoors and 5’7-3/4 outdoors. Schmidt, who won four Midwest Conference high jump titles in her track career, also qualified for nationals in the triple jump three times and held the school record in that event for a decade. In the fall, Schmidt used her athletic ability to record 495 career kills for the volleyball team, which went a school-record 25-11 her senior year.
