Run fast and jump far—that was the formula James Wilson used to win two national long jump championships and lead the Fighting Scots to two top four NCAA team finishes.Wilson had Monmouth's bestever overall performance at an NCAA meet, adding second-, third- and fourth-place finishes to his long jump title at the 2016 outdoor meet, accounting for 29 of the Scots' 32 points. Those other events were, respectively, the 400-meter dash, the 4x100 and the 4x400. That year, the Scots placed third nationally outdoors and fourth indoors, where Wilson also captured the long jump title, one of his 13 All-American honors. At the time of his induction, he held Monmouth's and the Midwest Conference's indoor long jump record (24 feet, 3 inches). Wilson ramped up for national success by dominating MWC meets. He was named a Most Outstanding Performer eight times, including both the track AND field honors at three meets. In all, he won 22 conference titles, 14 individually.
