Thomas Nichol’s athletic career at MC was distinguished, but it was only one part of a distinguished and dignified life. As a member of the Fighting Scots football team, Nichol won three letters and was a key part of the 1951 team that went 6-2 and fell just a field goal short of capturing the conference championship. He won three more letters in track and led the team to a conference championship his senior year.

Those accomplishments, though, were just the beginning. A summa cum laude graduate, Nichol was president of the Theta  Chi fraternity and the senior class. After graduation, he earned his M.D. from the University of Illinois and spent 10 years as a medical missionary serving the Presbyterian Church in Ethiopia. He then worked in family practice at a clinic in Estes Park, Colo.
