Charley Corle was a star fullback who helped turn around the Monmouth football program in the late 1960s. In his junior and senior years, the Scots finished with records of 6-1-1 and 7-2. He was selected to the All-Midwest Conference team, the all-state team and received honorable mention All-American status.

A native of Wilton Junction, Iowa, Corle finished his junior year as the leading scorer in the MWC and the state of Illinois, with 19 touchdowns and 114 points. He averaged nearly 110 yards per game. Hobbled by a knee injury early in his senior season, Corle roared back in the seventh game with 153 yards against Beloit, including touchdown runs of 70 and 39 yards in a 45-3 romp. He finished his gridiron career with a 131-yard performance at Coe.

Corle won four letters each in football and wrestling while serving as captain of both teams, and added three letters in track.
