Champion hurdlers need to approach each obstacle in a choreographed rhythm. All-American Shannon Turczyn established a great one during her Monmouth College career.Turczyn had a trio of fifth-place national finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and also placed seventh in that race, making her the only Monmouth woman with four All-American honors in the same event. In all, she qualified for nationals seven times and was a five-time All-American.Turczyn had a winning rhythm at Midwest Conference meets, too. For all four years, she was both the 55- and 100-meter hurdles champion, and each of her indoor and outdoor seasons included an MWC team title, eight in all. Along with her eight individual victories at conference meets, Turczyn was part of five relay wins. As a senior, she broke her own conference record in the 100-meter hurdles (14.29), and her best time of 14.18 remains the school record at the time of her induction.
