Channing Pratt was a Midwest Conference champion in the low and high hurdles. He was also a member of four relay teams that set school records. Pratt won six individual championships in hurdle events, and his best official time in the 120-yard high hurdles was 14.7 seconds (one second off the world record). His top mark in the 220-yard low hurdles was 23.4 (less than a second off the world record). Pratt’s relay teams placed in the prestigious Drake Relays three straight seasons, and he also placed in the low hurdles. In 1951, he helped Monmouth defeat Bradley and Notre Dame in the mile relay at the Bradley Invitational.

Pratt also won three varsity letters in basketball. In the last home game of his hoops career, he made eight field goals and 14 free throws for 30 points in a 79-75 upset win over Knox.
