A highly skilled player, Lusk played all the backfield positions in football, guard in basketball and third base in baseball. He helped direct Monmouth to an MWC basketball championship in the 1937-38 season, as the Scots reeled off 10 straight victories to secure the title.

Lusk went on to coach freshman football, basketball and track at Monmouth from 1940-42. He later coached and taught in the Illinois school districts of Mt. Carroll and Momence.
