On the strength of her basketball career alone, Penny Rowan, who came to Monmouth from Belvidere (Ill.) High School, certainly qualifies as a Hall of Famer. But Rowan added to her resume by also starring for the tennis and softball teams. In the meantime, she was very active in student government.

In her freshman basketball season, Rowan teamed with Hall of Famer Heather Robertson to help the Fighting Scots post a school-record 14 wins. The best was yet to come individually for the 5-foot-10 center, as she dominated the paint over the next three seasons to finish as MC’s all-time leading rebounder (809) and second-leading scorer (1,443). Rowan was named to the All-Midwest Conference first team in 1990 and 1992 and made the second team in 1991.

In softball, she was named to two All-MWC first teams and she was a team MVP in tennis.
