College athletics suited Bob Tucker so well during his days at Monmouth that he made them a large part of his career, with successful stints at Tarkio and Loras.

Tucker was a talented and versatile football player for the Fighting Scots. He saw action on both sides of the ball, earning all-conference honors for three seasons and All-State honors for two. Almost always Monmouth’s key to victory, Tucker’s senior highlights included a 114-yard rushing effort against Knox and a vintage all-around effort in his final game vs. Carleton.
Also a four-year member of the track team, he used his sprinter’s speed to score the deciding touchdown vs. Beloit in 1962.

At Loras, Tucker’s men’s track teams peaked in 1989, placing fourth in the nation during the indoor season and taking fifth at the NCAA outdoor meet. Tucker chaired Loras’s department of physical education and sports studies and founded its popular All-Sports Camp in 1983.
