On the grappling mat and on the gridiron, Bill Taylor exemplified the toughness of the teams coached by Joe Pelisek and Bill Reichow. A three-time letter winner in both wrestling and football, Taylor was a fierce competitor, losing only seven of 66 wrestling matches in four years. He also displayed great diversity, playing quarterback, halfback, linebacker and guard on football teams that were sometimes short on depth. Compact but powerful, the 160-pounder took all-conference honors for three consecutive years in wrestling and was twice conference champion.

He won his second Midwest Conference championship in dramatic fashion, defeating Coe’s George Dyche with a reversal with just seven seconds to go.
In football, Bill won the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award and was an All-MWC player in 1965.

Following graduation, Bill took his wrestling experience to Kewanee High School, where he coached for 11 years.
