Charles Dawson will be remembered for having one of the best individual records in the annals of Monmouth College golf. He teamed with Bill Reynolds, Bill Normoyle and George Bersted to capture the Midwest Conference championship in 1940.

In their first match that season, the Monmouth quartet defeated Bradley University, which had won its conference the year before. In the conference championship, Dawson and Reynolds tied for first place. Dawson continued his spotless record for two more years, being undefeated in match play. He capped off a brilliant college career by again capturing the individual conference championship as a senior in 1942. After graduation, Dawson served as a naval officer during World War II.

His twin sons, Stephen and Stanley, also had respectable athletic careers at Monmouth College in the late 1960s.
