For well over a quarter of a century, Ron Baker held nearly every modern rushing record in football at Monmouth College, including most yards in a game (223), a season (1,218) and a career (3,642). As the team’s punter, he averaged a booming 38.7 yards per kick. Baker was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American during his junior year and a Kodak All-American his senior year. With his 36 career TDs propelling the offense, Monmouth posted a record of 17-7-1 during his three full seasons as a starter from 1973-75. He was consistently among the nation’s leading rushers during those seasons and went on to have tryouts with three NFL teams.

Baker was also the Midwest Conference champion in the discus and set a school record in the javelin. He added three varsity letters in wrestling and won the team pinning trophy.
