He played end and running back in football, forward in basketball, and was a champion javelin thrower in track, as well as an outstanding hurdler and relay man. He won three letters each in football and basketball and four letters in track.

Mann, who was several times the school record holder in the javelin with a best effort of 158’8, was a key member of Monmouth’s mile relay team, which took first at the Illinois College Meet and second at the State Meet in 1923.

Described as a stylish tackler and a speedy end with good hands, Mann’s outstanding play in a 12-0 win over Knox on Thanksgiving Day in 1925 helped Monmouth finish a 7-0-2 season.
