Dudley Plunkett was a member of the Midwest Conference championship basketball team his sophomore season and was one of the leading scorers in the conference during his career. His senior year he was chosen to the All-MWC basketball team and earned all-conference honors in track. He was also recognized for his accomplishments on the gridiron by being name to both the All-MWC and the all-state football teams.

Following graduation, Plunkett coached at Viola (Ill.) High School and played semi-professional basketball. His athletic career continued when he played baseball and basketball for the Navy while stationed at Pensacola, Fla., during World War II.

Plunkett completed his master’s degree in actuarial math from the University of Michigan. He worked for Columbus Mutual Life Insurance Company for 35 years, and was a senior vice president for that company at the time of his death in 1982.
