Buck Worley’s two-part Monmouth athletic career featured remarkable across-the-board success. Starting in his freshman year, he participated in football, basketball and track and excelled in all three. He played on the 1941-42 Midwest Conference championship basketball team, and he was a starting halfback for the 1941 football team. His success in football earned him All-MWC second team honors.

Worley went off to war in 1943, but returned to Monmouth after his discharge from the military and continued his athletic career. By the time he graduated in 1947, Worley had won 10 varsity letters, three freshman awards and was elected student body president his senior year.

He became a long-time teacher and coach at Mt. Morris (Ill.) High School, where the athletic field has been named in his honor.
