Monmouth-area track fans were treated to a brilliant eight-year run during the high school and college career of Christine Stanton Lehnen. Competing for Monmouth High School, Stanton was a fixture on Zipperette relay teams that medaled eight times in three years and won three state titles. In 1990, she was on two state champion relays as Monmouth placed second in Class A. Stanton continued her relay success in college, running on MC’s first-ever All-American women’s relay team, the sixth-place 4x100 squad in 1995.

She was also part of six MWC champion relay teams. As a junior, she competed at the national meet in the 400-meter dash after winning that event indoors at the conference level. She remains on Monmouth’s 400-meter honor rolls with her top times of 58.43 outdoors and 59.85 indoors. The multiple academic all-conference honoree and 4.0 student received an NCAA postgraduate scholarship and went on to a career in education.
