For an offensive lineman to put up star statistics is unusual, but that’s exactly what Dan Cotter did. Twice a first-team All-Midwest Conference center and once an honorable mention pick, Cotter started all 37 games in his career. Monmouth reached the MWC title game his senior season, when he was named to the Associated Press Little All-American honorable mention team.

With a grade-point average of 3.71, Cotter excelled in the classroom, being named an Academic All-American in 1987. He also won the football team’s prestigious McClintock Award and was Blue Key’s Senior Man of the Year. Contributing to Cotter’s success, he says, was MC line coach Hal “Tiny” Devore, and Cotter and his linemates were proud to be called “Tiny’s Fat Boys.”

Cotter carried his penchant for success into his professional life in Chicago. He was recognized by Monmouth College as its Distinguished Young Alumnus in 2001.
