During the Glasgow Field era of Fighting Scots baseball, there is perhaps no better image than the sight of Ryan Johnson, his glove hand lifted high, celebrating with teammates after his complete-game, 4-0 victory over the nation’s No. 3 team, Aurora, in the 2002 Midwest Regional. That was Johnson’s final outing during a memorable senior year that saw him go 9-0 with a 0.90 ERA in his final 60 innings.
A four-time first team All-Midwest Conference selection, Johnson earned All-Midwest Region and MWC Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior. At the time of induction, Johnson was in the top five in career wins (23), ERA (2.60), shutouts (5) and strikeouts (199).
Other highlights of the southpaw’s career included posting a miniscule 1.64 ERA and striking out 14 Illinois College batters his freshman season and winning the first game played at Glasgow Field as a sophomore. He ended his career with a perfect record against Knox.
