    Track & Field, Coach

Roger Haynes came to Monmouth College from nearby Avon and proceeded to have, arguably, the most profound effect on the sport of track and field that any Fighting Scot has ever had. As a javelin thrower, he won Midwest Conference titles in 1981 and 1982 and set a Monmouth record with a heave of 205’8.

It was as coach, though, that Haynes made his most significant mark in MC athletic history. His men’s teams dominated the 1990s in the MWC, including a seventh-place national finish in 1992. Haynes’ success rate continued in 2000 when he took over both the men’s and women’s programs. The number of individual MWC champions and Division III All-Americans that have trained under Haynes far exceeds the total of any previous MC coach and include Hall of Famers and national champions Eric Ealy and Charles Burton.
