Brooks received All-Midwest Conference honors in basketball as a junior and senior and was a conference champion three times in track. He won both the 100-yard dash and the long jump as a junior and repeated his long-jump championship as a senior.

An All-MWC football player for three years, Brooks led the Scots to a 6-2 season his senior year and was named a Little All-American at running back. He was active on the college’s student council and was listed in Who’s Who Among American College and University Students.
