Lance Zedric did not receive the All-American accolades that many Fighting Scots throwers who followed him achieved, but it can be argued those competitors have been chasing his unofficial status as the best combined three-event thrower in the illustrious history of Monmouth track.

Zedric’s monstrous throw of 53’9-1/2 at the Midwest Conference meet in 1983 set an MWC record and shattered the previous Monmouth mark by more than four feet. He went on to take seventh at the national meet, missing an All-American slot by one place. At the time of his induction, Zedric also ranked fourth on the Scots’ javelin honor roll (196’10) and had a PR of 145’0 in the discus. He increased all three of those distances in post-collegiate competition.

Zedric also starred on the gridiron, starting at center and linebacker, where he posted 65 tackles in 1981.

The author of 10 books, Zedric is today an educator and noted military history consultant.
