Roger Sander came to Monmouth in the fall of 1974 and embarked on a great playing and coaching career with the Fighting Scots.

According to basketball coach Terry Glasgow, Sander possessed “the quickest first step and the finest hands of any big man I’ve had the privilege of coaching.” With 939 career rebounds, Sander trampled every MC rebounding record, and he could score, too, as evidenced by his career average of 17.4 points per game. Monmouth teams compiled a 60-23 record during the tenure of Sander, who was named All-American in 1977 and 1978.

He returned to his alma mater in the fall of 1984 and coached many years alongside Glasgow in both basketball and baseball, in addition to his duties as equipment manager. As head coach, he led the Scots baseball team to an NCAA regional appearance in 2002.
