Herb Hart served Monmouth College as a coach and administrator for 14 years. During his tenure the Scots enjoyed some of their most successful achievements on the athletic fields and won championships in both the Midwest and Little Nineteen Conference.

Hart spent his own collegiate days at Purdue University from 1914-18, competing in varsity football, basketball and track. He came to Monmouth in 1925 and, in his first season as football coach, the Scots went 7-0-2 and won the Midwest Conference title. His football teams won more than 61 percent of their games.

Hart played a key role in securing Monmouth as a charter member in the Midwest Conference, an association the college still enjoys to this day.
