Fourteen years after he last competed for the Fighting Scots, with several championship-caliber throwers who followed him, Eric Holmes still holds the top three indoor shot put efforts in school history. His school-record 56’3-1/4 throw at the 2001 NCAA indoor meet earned Monmouth’s first-ever national runner-up finish.

Outdoors, Holmes has two of the top shot put marks in school history, including one that gave him the second of his two All-American honors. That effort came at the 2001 NCAA outdoor meet, where Holmes unleashed a throw of 54’1-3/4 to place fourth. His best outdoor mark, which is No. 2 in Monmouth history, was a throw of 54’6-1/2 earlier that season.

At the Midwest Conference level, Holmes swept the indoor and outdoor shot put titles his junior and senior seasons, earning Most Outstanding Performer of the meet honors three times, including the 2001 indoor meet, where his throw of 55’1-3/4 remains the MWC record.
