Box Score 2 The Monmouth College women's tennis team honored five seniors on Saturday before their second match of the day. Hosting their final weekend match of the season, the Scots celebrated
Emily Laughlin (Milan, Illinois),
Isabel Hammond (Germantown Hills, Illinois),
Emily Henson (Geneseo, Illinois),
Ditza Montesinos (Villa Park, Illinois) and
Isabella Perez (Chicago, Illinois).
The Scots started the day with a hard-fought, 5-4 loss to Ripon College. Freshman
Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) teamed up with Laughlin to win at No. 1 doubles 8-3. But Ripon took the other two doubles matches 8-3 and led 2-1 heading into singles.Â
Labicki won at No.1 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Laughlin won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 7-6 (6). Hammond went three sets to win at No. 3 singles 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Henson lost at No. 4 in straight sets while
Julia Mheidze (Springfield, Illinois) lost in straight sets at No. 6.
Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) lost at No. 5 in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 2-6 as Ripon won the match.Â
In the second match of the day, the Scots Fell to Lawrence 9-0. Monmouth dropped all three doubles matches with Labicki/Laughlin at No. 1, Hammond/Henson at No. 2 and Perez/Montesinos at No. 3.Â
In singles, Labicki fought to get to a third set at No. 1 but eventually went down 10-8 in the tiebreak. The other five matches were straight-set wins for Lawrence.
The Scots will be at home to kick off Homecoming festivities on Friday, Oct. 1. The match against Illinois College starts at 4:30 p.m.
