Box Score The Monmouth College women's tennis team opened Midwest Conference play with a 4-3 win at Ripon on Saturday. Senior Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois), sophomore Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman Delaney Albarram (Chicago, Illinois) all went 2-0 on the day. 

Monmouth started the day by sweeping the doubles. Stefanova and freshman Jenny Nelson (Wentzville, Missouri) won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles while Riggs and senior Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) won 6-4 at No. 2. Albarram and sophomore Korryn Keehner (Staunton, Illinois) won the No. 3 match 7-0 in a tiebreaker.

"We had a slow start after a long drive but got going and pulled out a crucial point in doubles," said head coach Brian Dahlstrom. "They were able to stay with it and turn in an impressive performance in important points."

In singles, Stefanova dominated at No 1, winning 6-1, 6-3 to complete a sweep of her career against Ripon in dual matches. Nelson fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Calvert lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Riggs won at No. 4 6-0, 6-0 and Albarram clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5. Keener fell 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6. 

"It was awesome for Delaney to get her first singles win and clinch the match," said Dahlstrom. "She had a solid first set, fell behind in the second but figured out her game to take care of business. Overall we played some really good points today and we're looking forward to taking momentum down to Luther tomorrow."

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stefanova went 4-0 in her career in both singles and doubles against Ripon in dual matches…She now has 34 singles wins and is 4-0 in singles this season…Riggs also  won against Ripon last year…Albarram picked up her first career singles win…Keener earned her first career doubles win…The Scots are 5-5 against Ripon in the last 10 matches…Ripon won 4-3 last year…The Scots play at MWC newcomer Luther at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
