The Monmouth College men's and women's swimming teams competed in the first day of the Midwest Conference Championships on Friday at Grinnell College in Iowa. The event continues Saturday and concludes on Sunday. After day one, the women are in fifth place and the men are in eighth.
The women's 200y freestyle relay team finished fourth at 1:43.60.
Brooke McCormick (Metamora, Illinois) swam the first leg in 25.34, with the Scots in second place.
Ashling Staunton (Chicago, Illinois) swam the second leg in 27.22,
Lauren Fulscher (Moline, Illinois) swam 26.01 and
Jaidlyn Sellers (Tremont, Illinois) swam 25.03. Sellers, Fulscher, McCormick and
Lauren Johnson (Pekin, Illinois) teamed to finish seventh in the 400y IM at 4:19.97.
Individually, Sellers finished sixth in the 50y freestyle at 25.05 while McCormick finished seventh in the 200 IM at 2:16.15.
On the men's side, the 200y freestyle relay team of Finn VanDyke (Lawrence, Kansas),
Daniel Kadlec (Justice, Illinois),
Kyle Jones (Parkland, Florida) and
Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) finished sixth at 1:29.97. The same four finished sixth in the 400y IM at 3:43.05.
The MWC Championships continue at 10 am Saturday with another round of preliminaries and finals are at 5 pm. Sunday's preliminaries are at 9 am with the finals at 4pm.
