The Monmouth College swim teams hosted the Monmouth Invite on Saturday and both teams finished second in the 6-team events. The women's 200 medley relay team of
Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois),
Caitlyn Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois),
Allie Warren (Galesburg, Illinois) and
Claire LaBadie (Griffith, Indiana) set a top-10 time in Monmouth history while Warren and
Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) won individual events.
"We had some great swims again today," said head coach
Jake Dacus. "After another tough week of training you could see the fatigue in some of our races, but I was really proud with how our team competed and attacked each race. We learned a lot about who we are as a team this weekend and I'm excited to see how we get after it in the coming weeks."
WOMEN
The 200 medley relay team finished second to Illinois Wesleyan with a time of 1:57.66. That time moves them into 10th by .01 seconds in Monmouth history.Â
Warren won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.84 while
Addie Smith (Monmouth, Illinois) took third in 1:15.23. Warren also took third place in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.13 with
Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) in sixth at 2:32.15. Fitch also scored points in the 500 free with a sixth place finish at 5:59.64.Â
Stewart took second in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.55 and Smith was fourth in 2:10.15. Stewart was also third in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.76 and third in the 500 freestyle in 5:36.75.Â
Tate placed second in the 50 yard freestyle in 26.63 seconds with
Nora Collins (Hopedale, Illinois) in fifth at 26.94. Tate took third in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.85 while Collins in sixth place in 1:09.12. Collins placed third in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.10.Â
Freshman
Addie Zamora (Arma, Kansas) scored three points in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.82
The women's 400 freestyle relay of Tate, Warren, Fitch and Smith took second in 3:58.36.
MEN
McLarty won the 100 freestyle in 49.28 seconds and
Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) was sixth in 53.45. McLarty was second in the 100 butterfly in 53.44 seconds.Â
Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) took third in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.32 with
Jordan Bridgford (Kapolei, Hawai'i) right behind him in 1:00.65. Bridgford was seventh in the 200 free in 2:01.71 and Foster earned five points in the 50 free with a 10th place finish in 24.11 seconds.Â
Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.69 while Main took fifth in 1:07.09. Main was fifth in the 200 IM in 2:18.42, just ahead of Coyne in 2:19.44.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Bridgford, Coyne, McLarty and Foster took third in 1:44.53. The 400 freestyle relay team of McLarty, Main, Foster and Bridgford swam 3:35.78 to finish third.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The women finished second to Illinois Wesleyan by 45 points and they were 77 points ahead of Illinois College…The men tied for second with both Illinois Wesleyan and Simpson, 67 points behind Illinois College…Ripon, Simpson and North Central were also at the meet…The Scots will be back in action next Saturday at Illinois College…The next home meet in Jan. 17 against North Central.
