Stewart Delivers Second-Best 400 IM in School History

The Monmouth College swim teams delivered more top 10 times in school history on the third day of competition at the Midwest Conference Championships. The Monmouth women also moved up into fifth place on Saturday while the men remain in sixth. 

WOMEN

Caitlyn Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois) delivered the second-best 400 IM in school history in the final as she finished fourth in 4:46.23 to earn 17 points. Stewart qualified in sixth place and took six seconds off her prelims time in the final. 

Allie Warren (Galesburg, Illinois) finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke to earn 16 points with a time of 1:08.79. Nora Collins (Hopedale, Illinois) was right behind her in sixth place for 15 points and her time of 1:10.52 was a PR and the fifth-best time in school history. Lea Schmitt (Rockford, Illinois) took 11th in a season-best 1:11.66 and Addie Smith (Monmouth, Illinois) finished 16th in 1:12.85. 

Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) swam the sixth-best time in school history in the prelims of the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.02. She placed ninth in the final in 2:03.15 and earned 12 points. Addie Zamora (Arma, Kansas) earned two points in 17th place in 2:08.18. 

Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois) finished ninth in the 100 backstroke to pick up 12 points in a time of 1:02.37. 

The women's 400 medley relay of Tate, Stewart, Warren and Fitch finished fourth with a time of 4:11.61, just off their best time. 

With 240 points the Scots are in fifth place, up one from Friday. They are 14 points ahead of Illinois College and 14 points behind MSOE for fourth place. Grinnell is in first place with 752 points. 

MEN

Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) made the A-Final in the 100 fly with a qualifying swim of 53.04. He finished ninth to pick up 12 points with a time of 53.44. 

Jordan Bridgford (Kapolei, Hawai'i) delivered the fourth-best 400 IM in school history in the prelims with a time of 4:23.99. He finished in 12th place in the finals in 4:26.50 to earn seven points. Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) swam a PR in both races and finished the finals in 15th place in 4:43.0a to pick up four points. 

Coyne was 10th in the 100 breaststroke to earn 10 points with a swim of 1:01.39.  Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) swam a PR in both races and his finals time of 1:03.89 ranks 10th in school history as he picked up four points in 15th place. 

Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois),finished 14th in the 100 backstroke in 57.15 and Bucket Youvan (Rochester, Indiana) was 15th in 57.80. The flipped their spots from the prelims when both swam season-bests and combined they picked up nine points in the event. 

The medley relay team of Bridgford, McLarty, Coyne and Youvan finished sixth in 3:42.51.

The Scots are in sixth place with 172 points, 76 behind Illinois College. Grinnell leads with 705.5 points. 

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The MWC Championships conclude on Sunday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1650 freestyle and 400 free relay…The prelims are at 9 a.m. with the top nine in each event advancing to the finals at 4 p.m.
