Men's Soccer Falls to Ripon 2-1

The Monmouth College men's soccer team lost their conference home opener to Ripon on Saturday, 2-1. The Scots are now 2-8-2 overall and 0-3 in MWC action.

Ripon scored just after the 20 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead with a long distance shot. Just four minutes later the Scots got even. Nico Esparon (St. Denis, France) played the ball into the goal mouth and Jaxon Coleman (Washington, Illinois) slammed it into the net to tie the game. Just before halftime Ripon took the lead with an unassisted goal.

Neither team scored in the second half. Monmouth outshot Ripon 14-12 for the game and 6-5 in the second half. Esparon led the Scots with two shots on goal while six players had one each. Marcos Garibay (Waukegan, Illinois) started in goal and made three saves in the first half. Dennis Turdean (Chicago, Illinois) posted a shutout in the second half while making three saves in 45 minutes.

The Scots are next in action at 3 p.m. Tuesday at home against Illinois College.
