The Monmouth College men's soccer team led at halftime but ultimately lost to Grinnell College 3-1 in the rain on Tuesday afternoon. The loss against the MWC leaders drops the Scots to 2-9-2 overall and 0-4 in Midwest Conference play. 

With the rain falling at Peacock Park, the Pioneers took a handful of early shots but couldn't break through against Monmouth goalkeeper Dennis Turdean (Chicago, Illinois). The Scots snatched the first goal of the game on the counter attack as Nico Esparon's (St. Denis, France) pass set up Reid Sondgeroth (Mapleton, Illinois) with a 1-on-1 against the Grinnell goalie. Sondgeroth slotted the ball perfectly into the bottom right corner for his fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 Monmouth lead. 

The Scots maintained the 1-0 lead through halftime but Grinnell tied the game in the 59th minute with a goal on a free kick. They took the lead in the 61st minute with a goal on a corner kick and put the game away wih less than three minutes to play with another goal. 

Grinnell outshot Monmouth 15-9 in the game and shots on goal were 11-3. Turdean made eight saves and three different Scots took a shot on goal. Monmouth is next in action on Tuesday, Oct. 19 when they host Illinois College at 3 p.m.
