Box Score The Monmouth College women's tennis team played the first event of the fall season for the athletic department and fell 8-1 at Central College on Saturday.
Playing at No. 1 singles, junior
Emily Laughlin (Milan, Illinois) picked up a hard-fought three-set win. She won the first set 7-5 before dropping the second set 6-4. Laughlin took the third-set tie-breaker 10-8 to claim the win and move to 1-0 on the season.
Isabel Hammond (Germantown Hills, Illinois) played at No. singles and forced a first-set tie-breaker before falling 7-6 (5), 6-0.
Emily Henson (Geneseo, Illinois) and
Julia Mheidze (Springfield, Illinois) had identical 6-2, 6-2 scores at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively. Junior
Ditza Montesinos (Villa Park, Illinois) played at No. 5 singles and freshman
Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) made her college debut at No. 6 singles as both lost to their Central opponents.
Central took all three doubles matches as well. Laughlin and Hammond teamed at No. 1 doubles in an 8-1 loss. Henson and Mheidze played at No. 2 doubles and fell 8-2. Shimmin teamed with senior Isa Perez (Chicago, Illinois) at No. 3 singles and they had the best doubles showing with an 8-5 loss.
The Scots are next in action on Saturday, September 4. They travel to Dubuque, Iowa for a pair od dual matches, one against the University of Wisconsin-Stout at 1 p.m. and another against the University of Dubuque at 4 p.m.
