Monmouth got off to a fast start to their men's tennis season, opening with a 6-3 win over Central Saturday afternoon.
 
The Scots came out of doubles play up 2-1 when they took the top two spots. 
Joseph Shie and 
Zach Harris cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1. No. 2 doubles was only marginally closer when 
Andrew Shie and 
Brendan Guenther posted an 8-2 win. 
Alex Martin and 
Nicholas Robertson were clipped 8-4 at No. 3.
 
Monmouth swept the top three positions in singles to clinch the win and picked up a win at No. 5. Guenther won a three-set marathon at No. 5, winning the first set 7-6 before dropping the second 6-3. He then outlasted his Central opponent 14-12 in the tiebreaker.
 
Joseph Shie, 
Andrew Shie and Harris had easier times winning their singles matches. Joseph blanked his No. 1 opponent 6-0, 6-0 while Andrew eased to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2. Harris dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. Martin at No. 4 and Robertson at No. 6 each fell in straight sets.
 
The Scots resume action the week of March 8 with their annual Spring Break trip near Orlando, Fla.
