Monmouth led for nearly 39 minutes in Friday's 63-48 win over St. Norbert in the resumption of Midwest Conference play for both teams.
Â
It had been nearly a month since the squads' last league games and Monmouth showed no ill effects in taking a 19-7 first quarter lead. The Green Knights collected the game's first bucket, but it was all Scots after that as Monmouth countered with a 7-2 run. The Scots poured it on in the final three minutes of the opening quarter with another 7-2 run and never looked back.
Â
St. Norbert stayed close and pulled within eight twice in the second quarter, but couldn't catch Monmouth before the hosts took a 32-20 halftime lead. The Scots stretched the second half lead to 18 in the third period on
Kaitlyn Osmulski's layup early in the frame and again midway through on a
Yvonne Ornelas layup for a 42-24 advantage. The Scots maintained the margin in the final frame for their second league win against one loss.
Â
Monmouth continues league play Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest in Glennie Gym with Beloit.
