Monmouth led from start-to-finish, posting a convincing 84-48 win at Beloit to pull into sole possession of second place in the Midwest Conference.
Â
The Fighting Scots scored the first seven points, four on a pair of
Jordan Kintigh layups to begin the scoring, as Monmouth roared out to a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes. Monmouth's defense meanwhile, held the Buccaneers to just 2-of-12 shooting in the first 10 minutes and 2-of-9 in the second quarter to open up a 39-19 halftime lead.
Â
Beloit heated up in the second half, but the Scots had an answer, shooting 17-of-29 from the floor in the second half and outscoring the Bucs 29-11 in the final 10 minutes. Monmouth also held a 50-14 advantage in the paint and converted Beloit's 27 turnovers into 38 points.
Â
Carley Turnbull's 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting led four Scots in double figures.
Yvonne Ornelas and
Becca Gallis scored 13 each as Ornelas was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor and Gallis canned all six of her free throws to run her consecutive free throw streak to 24, five shy of the program record set this season by
Kaitlyn Osmulski.
Shayne Smith rounded out the double digit scores with 12 points.
