Women Hold on to Second Place in MWC with Second Half

Box Score Tarae Warner came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points, sparking the Scots to a second half rally in a 78-69 win Tuesday night at Illinois College.

The Scots got off to a slow start in the opening quarter and trailed 22-8 before closing the gap in the second quarter. Warner canned one of her six 3-pointers at the end of the first half to trim the deficit to 31-22 at the intermission.

Monmouth heated up in the second half, but still trailed by six, at 52-46 by the end of the third period. Yvonne Ornelas' 3-ball with 6:31 left in the game gave the Scots their first lead of the game at 57-56, but the teams traded the lead down the stretch. Another Warner trey with 2:44 remaining gave Monmouth the lead for good at 66-63. The Scots completed the comeback by making 7-of-8 free throws in the final 48 seconds to avenge a December loss to the Lady Blues.

Warner, who went 6-for-11 from the floor, led the Scots with 19 points, Becca Gallis added 16, Shayne Smith 13, Ornelas 12 and Jordan Kintigh 10. Monmouth's hot hands at the free throw line continued where they hit 19-of-22 'throws.

The Scots, currently in second in the Midwest Conference, host Lake Forest, tied for third in the league, in a Saturday tip off in Glennie Gym at 5 p.m.
