A trio of Scots' newcomers were involved in a pair of the closest matches of the day Saturday when Monmouth entertained Central College at the Monmouth College Tennis Stadium, the Scots' last tune up before opening league play.
Â
Freshmen Isabel Hammond and Emily Henson took their Dutch counterparts to the limit at No. 3 doubles before falling 8-7, dropping a 7-3 tiebreaker. Emma Johanns and McKenzie DeVilder were edged 8-5 at No. 1 and the No. 2 team of Emily Laughlin and Alison Bowman fell 8-1.
Â
Laughlin nearly got revenge in singles where she was edged in three sets at No. 3. The freshman dropped a close 7-5 first set, but roared to a 6-2 win in Set 2 to force a tiebreaker. Central eked out the win, 10-4. Central rolled to straight set wins in the rest of the singles trimming Johanns at No. 1, DeVilder at No. 2, and Bowman, Hammond and Henson at Nos. 4-6.
