Monmouth's women experienced both ends of the spectrum Saturday at the Monmouth College Tennis Stadium. The Scots rebounded in the afternoon with a 6-3 win over Beloit following a 9-0 blanking by Lake Forest in the day's early match.
Â
Only
Isabel Hammond and
Emily Laughlin notched a win in doubles against Beloit, taking the No. 3 contest 8-4 as the Scots trailed 2-1 heading into singles play. Monmouth nearly came out of doubles up 2-1, but
Rachael Leifheit and
Alison Bowman were edged 8-7 at No. 2.
Emma Johanns and McKenzie DeVidler were also clipped in a close doubles pairing at No. 1, falling 8-5.
Â
The Scots dominated in singles play where Johanns fought through a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 win at No. 1. Leifheit at No. 3, Laughlin at No. 4, No. 5 Bowman and Hammond at No. 6 all won in straight sets. DeVilder was outlasted at No. 2 by identical 6-4, 6-4 scores.
Â
It was all Lake Forest in the morning match as the Scots picked up just a single game in doubles and fell in straight sets in all six singles matches.
Â
Monmouth will hit the road Sept. 14 and 15, playing matches on Saturday at Lawrence and Ripon before ending the road trip Sunday at St. Norbert.
