Weather conditions in Minnesota Saturday forced Monmouth and the University of Northwestern indoors where the Eagles got the best of the Scots 10-7.
Â
After falling behind in the first five minutes, the Scots knotted the game at 1-1 just two minutes later on a man-up goal from
Mitch Perez. Northwestern then scored the next two before
Jeff Knapp logged his first of five goals in the game, drawing Monmouth within 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. Knapp notched both of Monmouth's second-quarter goals, but the Scots found themselves trailing 6-4 at the break.
Â
Defense ruled in the second half as the Eagles outscored the Scots 4-3 over the final 30 minutes. Despite a 55-39 shot advantage which included an 18-6 margin in the fourth quarter, the Scots were hampered by a 14-7 faceoff deficit and a 35-17 ground ball disadvantage.
