Mike Dato and
Matt Temaner combined to drive in seven runs to back starter
Ryan Schulz in a 19-10 slugfest win over Muskingum Monday at Fort Pierce, Fla.
Â
The Scots took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third when
Harry Sanchez ripped a two-run triple and then scored on Dato's double. Monmouth piled on five more, batting around in the fifth while taking advantage of a pair of errors and a hit batsman to lead 8-1. Temaner knocked in two as the Scots erupted for an 11-run seventh inning, banging out nine of their 18 hits in the inning. Muskingum rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the ninth before stranding the bases loaded to end the game, giving Shulz the win in his season-opener.
Â
Dato drove in four going 4-for-6 at the plate while Temaner was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Â
Monmouth will take Tuesday off before meeting Penn State-Behrend on Wednesday.
