Monmouth scored in the first 32 seconds and never looked back in a season-opening 10-3 win over Carroll Saturday at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
 
Jeff Knapp notched his first of five goals – tying the program record for goals in a game – before freshman 
Kyle Hatfield logged his first career goal to give the Scots a quick 2-0 lead with 9:53 left in the first quarter. The tandem netted two more first half goals and 
Mitch Perez scored one to put Monmouth up 5-0 at halftime. The Pioneers put two in the cage at the start of the second half and added another at the 9:20 mark before Monmouth's defense clamped down and the offense rolled to four unanswered goals.
 
The Scots fired off a near-record 52 shots, just seven shy of the team record, putting 30 on goal. 
Grant Miller earned his first career win in goal, stopping the three shots he faced.
 
Monmouth travels to Minnesota next Saturday to face the University of Northwestern.
