Only part of the Midwest Conference playoff equation was completed Saturday when Monmouth blanked Ripon 3-0 in Wisconsin.
Â
Needing a win and negative results from Lawrence and Cornell to gain the final MWC berth, the Scots took care of their part of the bargain when
Alvaro Alvarez gave the Scots a 1-0 lead less than a minute before the half.
Nicolas Esparon added an insurance goal in the 54
th minute and
Duh Thang completed the trifecta with a goal in the 70
th minute.

Lake Forest helped the Scots with a 6-1 win over Lawrence to move the Scots into fourth with 14 points, knocking the Vikings out of contention. Entering the weekend tied with Cornell, the Scots might have had to wait to learn their postseason fate until math took over. A Sunday loss or tie by Cornell with Knox would punch the Scots' ticket, but a Rams' win would tie the Scots for the final berth, sending the teams into a third tier tiebreaker of goal differential in all league games, with a four goal per game limit. Monmouth holds the advantage there after Saturdays' blanking of Ripon, giving them fourth place and the final MWC berth, regardless of Sunday's play.
Yet to be determined, the MWC regular season champion won't be decided until Sunday's play. Lake Forest holds a three-point lead on Knox. A Knox loss or tie would give the Foresters the hosting duties. A Knox win makes them the regular season winner by virtue of a head-to-head advantage over LFC. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
