D.J. Swift's 25 points helped Monmouth pulled away in the second half to post a 71-63 win at Knox and into a tie for sixth in the Midwest Conference.

Will Carius plagued by foul trouble, Swift took charge as Monmouth pulled away after nursing a 34-32 lead at the half. Carius opened the second half with a pair of free throws before being sidelined as Monmouth went on a 6-0 run and never trailed over the final 20 minutes. Swift's 3-pointer at the 12:12 mark of the second period gave the Scots a 10-point lead at 47-37 as Knox never got closer than four points the rest of the way.

Monmouth's bench, led by
Trey Swearingen's 11 points, outscored the Fire subs 25-18. The Scots also held a 38-29 rebounding edge and converted 21 second chance points.

The Scots host Beloit Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup at Glennie Gym. The teams are tied for sixth in the league standings.
