Monmouth hit their free throws when it mattered most in Friday's 65-57 win over Ripon to pull into a two-way tie for the top spot in league with the Red Hawks.
Â
Leading 43-41 entering the fourth quarter, the Scots went 9-for-11 from the free throw line in the final 10 minutes, including a 4-for-4 effort in the last 30 seconds to hold off the Red Hawks. Monmouth took a 14-7 first quarter lead, but the Red Hawks rallied in the second period, to trial by two, 24-22 at the break. The teams played even-up in the third period before the Scots began to pull away in the fourth quarter when
Kaitlyn Osmulski buried a 3-pointer and
Carley Turnbull canned a bucket in the lane for a 58-50 lead with 3:22 left. Forced to foul in the final minutes, the Red Hawks sent the Scots to the line late as
Becca Gallis went 4-for-4 from the line in the last two minutes on her way to a game-high 21 points.
Shayne Smith posted a 13-point effort while Turnbull and Osmulski added a dozen each.
