NELSON BREAKS NFL QB's RECORD, MAXWELL REWRITES RECORD BOOK IN SCOTS' WIN

Hayden Nelson broke record-setting former Scot and now NFL quarterback Alex Tanney's single-game touchdown passing record with seven scores in Saturday's 49-0 win over Lawrence.

Nelson surpassed Tanney – now with the New York Giants – when he hit Jacolby Maxwell for Maxwell's record-tying fourth TD for the last score of the game in the third quarter. The grab gave Maxwell a share of the record with teammate Yansay Williams' mark of four TD receptions set in 2016.

The Scots rolled up 461 yards of offense – 197 through the air – as the defense held the Vikings to just 108 yards and only 30 on the ground.

DeAndre Wright – who hauled in Nelson's first TD toss of the game – rushed for 169 yards while also grabbing four passes for 28 yards. Following Wright's scoring grab, Wes Anderson snared Nelsoj's second and Maxwell hauled in the next two – the longest a 65-yard catch-and-run with 11:09 left in the second quarter. Triston Gibson's six-yard TD catch four minutes later gave Monmouth a 35-0 halftime lead.

Monmouth's defense once again spent the day in the opponent's backfield, netting nine tackles for loss and three sacks.

The Scots open Midwest Conference South Division play next Saturday when they host Grinnell for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for a special 2 p.m. start.
