Monmouth rolled up 578 yards of offense and limited Grinnell to just 127 in a Fighting Scots' 55-0 win over Grinnell for the Monmouth Homecoming.
Â
The Scots recorded their third straight shutout while recording seven sacks – three by Thomas Lesneiwski and two from
Levi Oliveto – and limiting the Pioneers to minus-16 yards rushing. With half the season yet to play Lesniewksi is just 3.5 sacks shy of tying the Scots' all-time record set by Greg Bennett from 1987-90. Senior running back
DeAndre Wright climbed over the 600-yard rushing mark this season with a 180-yard day, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry.
Â
A quick start – a two-play, 57-yard drive that took all of 37 seconds on Monmouth's first possession – set the tone for the day.
Hayden Nelson followed his seven touchdown pass performance from a week ago with a 72-yard strike to
Jacolby Maxwell to open the gates. The tandem hooked up again on the next possession on the way to a 21-point first quarter.
Â
Hayden finished with a 189-yard, three TD passing day, throwing one to
Nathan Graham who also was on the passing end of a TD, hitting
Wesley Anderson for a 26-yard score in the second quarter.
Â
Monmouth travels to Illinois College next Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Blueboys.
